Grade 7

The catechetical program for this grade utilizes and builds upon the Connect Junior High series published by Silver Burdett Ginn. Class time during the academic year includes 27 hours of instruction plus additional activities. Teaching approach includes a combination of small groups and larger meetings. Small groups and most classes are led by adults and older adolescents who are part of Peer Ministry. There are four teaching themes incorporated within the 7th grade program including:

Who Am I?

This theme invites young people to examine their own personal growth and identity with the support of the Holy Spirit and a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Sessions include discussions on Catholic values, community, moral decision making, self-esteem and faith identity.

Who Is Jesus?

This theme focuses on many of the key teachings of Jesus. It seeks to relate the message of Jesus to their own situation and experience. Sessions include discussion of prayer, evangelization, basic concepts of Catholic Social Teaching, and the Beatitudes.

Sacraments

This theme introduces young people to a deeper understanding of the seven sacraments, what they mean and how they relate to their lives.

Catholic Identity

Through a variety of experiences, field trips, and activities, this theme intends to foster a deeper understanding of Catholic identity, including a connection with the wider Church.
